Since 1993 Mal Stewart has been an oenology lecturer prior to specialising in production of Méthode Champenoise wines in the Macedon region at Kilchurn and subsequently establishing his own sparkling wine production facility at Drouin in Gippsland. His sparkling wines embody precise technique and immaculate expression of flavour.
Neil Prentice planted Pinot Noir at Moondarra in Gippsland in 1991. He has a background as a sommelier and restauranteur in Melbourne as well as growing and making wine. Neil’s wines are an instinctive response to terroir with a gustatory inspiration. Mal Stewart and Neil Prentice have been working together in Gippsland since 2010 producing sparkling wine using fruit from Gippsland as well as other nearby cool climate regions.
Their joint venture wines ‘Stewart & Prentice’ are a marriage of Mal’s patient technical precision and Neil’s flamboyant alchemy. The wines are pristine, pure expressions of fruit which epitomise finesse and balance.
